Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) is excited to announce the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at the Lindsay and Muskoka Education Centres.
This initiative is aligned with the G7 Student Senate’s Climate Change Action Plan, which was developed in 2020 and enthusiastically supported by TLDSB trustees. The overall goal of the plan is to set standards and take proactive action to ensure that all school communities comply with international climate agreements and promote a sustainable environmental education model.
TLDSB is working with Flo, a Quebec based company, for the charging stations at both locations, which have dedicated parking spaces to accommodate up to four vehicles at a time. These charging stations are open to the public 24/7 and can be found at the Lindsay Education Centre at 300 County Road 36, Lindsay, and Muskoka Education Centre at 1271 Cedar Lane, Bracebridge. The cost associated with using the charging stations is at the user’s expense.
“I am excited that these new charging stations have been created and am delighted with how they contribute to the Climate Change Action Plan,” said TLDSB student trustee and G7 representative, Maiya Dyni. “Phase 8 of the plan is carbon-conscious transportation. During this phase, one of the goals is to reduce our carbon footprint through alternative methods of fuel. These new charging stations perfectly align with this goal and I believe they are an amazing representation of the changes that are yet to come.”
TLDSB has plans to install more electric vehicle charging stations at secondary and elementary school buildings in the coming years where there is currently no local infrastructure for charging an electric vehicle.
