LINDSAY, ON – At the May 23, Trillium Lakelands District School Board Regular Meeting of the Board, trustees approved the ratification of the local terms of the Collective Agreement for the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 997, which represents the custodial/maintenance and office, clerical, technical, and educational assistants bargaining units.
Seven days of negotiations were held between September 2022 and March 2023, and on April 25, a tentative settlement was reached. Highlights to the local agreement include, recognition of the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation in the form of an additional float day and updates to the educational assistant posting and placement process.
The ratification of the local agreement paves the way for CUPE employees to also receive the centrally negotiated wage increase.
Chair of the Board, Bruce Reain shared, “We are pleased to have labour stability with our CUPE Local 997 staff for the duration of this agreement.”
