Director’s recognition for innovation and leadership
Innovation is the practice of developing and implementing new and relevant services or systems. Leadership is a set of behaviours used to help people align collective directions, execute strategic plans, and continually renew and improve an organization.
The Director’s Recognition for Innovation and Leadership Award celebrates individuals in Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) who have combined the characteristics of innovation and leadership to improve our system and advance the strategic direction goals of improving student learning and achievement, and fostering student and staff well-being. The award will be presented by the director of education, Wes Hahn, at each TLDSB Public Meeting of the Board. Hahn introduced this month’s recipient:
Kristi Henshall has been an itinerant teacher and Special Education consultant with TLDSB from 2019 to 2023, providing leadership for autism programs and services in TLDSB. Through staff training initiatives, provision of student-specific programming support, and enhanced agreements with community partners, Henshall has made a profound impact on outcomes for students living with autism. Most recently, Henshall was appointed the vice-principal at Lady Eaton Elementary School.

Director’s report
Hahn provided trustees with an update on the learning taking place across TLDSB that aligns with the 2022-2027 Strategic Plan. He explained how the senior team has engaged in short and long-term planning that aligns with the Board’s Student Achievement Plan, with schools developing their School Improvement Plans, then linking the two together.
Hahn will continue the Director’s Forums that were established last school year where the director meets with educators and students across the Board.
System learning continues to be the priority at the central office and in schools. Administrators from across the Board met last week for regional leadership meetings where they heard from the Indigenous Student Success Team about the responsibility and commitment to our Indigenous students and the Mental Health Services team on priorities around tier one support.
Boundary review
The recommendations from the Parkview Public School catchment boundary review were brought forward and approved by the Board of Trustees. The decisions affect Alexandra Public School, Central Senior School, Fenelon Township Public School, King Albert Public School, Leslie Frost Public School, Mariposa Elementary School, Parkview Public School, and Queen Victoria Public School. The following decisions will take effect September 2024:
- A transition to a Kindergarten to Grade 8 model for Alexandra Public School, King Albert Public School, Leslie Frost Public School (English students), Parkview Public School, and Queen Victoria Public School:
Beginning in September 2024, students at each of the above named schools who are currently in Grade 6 for the 2023-2024 school year will remain at their current school and move into Grade 7 for the 2024-2025 school year. They will then stay at the same school for their Grade 8 year, starting in September 2025.
Students who are currently in Grade 7 at Central Senior School will remain at Central Senior School for their Grade 8 year in 2024-2025. Grade 7 and 8 French Immersion programming will also continue at Central Senior School. - Establishment of a new school catchment boundary in anticipation of new housing developments east of the Lindsay Municipal Airport, with interim holding schools in place at Mariposa Elementary School and Fenelon Township Public School. The students within the newly defined catchment boundary will attend the holding schools until such a time that a new school is opened.
- School catchment boundary changes for Alexandra Public School, Fenelon Township Public School, King Albert Public School, Leslie Frost Public School, Mariposa Elementary School, and Parkview Public School. See the revised interactive boundary maps on the Boundary Review page.
The following considerations have been taken into account for legacy attendance circumstances:
– Students currently residing within the Ken Rei Road area and the area west of Angeline Street North may complete their schooling at Parkview Public School should they choose to. All new students within these areas will attend the new home school catchment boundary school or holding school.
– Legacy attendance at Parkview Public School will not be considered for students residing within the new proposed boundary for Alexandra Public School.
– Legacy attendance at Leslie Frost Public School (English stream) will not be considered for students residing within the new proposed boundary for King Albert Public School.
– Exceptional circumstances outside of those noted above can be appealed through the school principal to the regional superintendent’s office. - There is no change to the current school catchment boundary for Queen Victoria Public School.

Travel rate 2024
Superintendent of Business, Tim Ellis, provided an update to trustees on the 2024 kilometer travel rate calculation for staff use of a personal vehicle for board business. Using the established automobile rates set by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), the current rate is .70 cents for up to 5,000 kilometers and .64 cents for over 5,000 kilometers.
